Curious Chefs: ¡COMAMOS! Let’s Eat!
In the ¡Comamos! Cooking class we get to explore the rich flavor of Central and South America – a variety of cuisines that make for some of the most flavorful and robust dishes that many of us have come to love. Kids will work with an instructor to prepare simple, hearty and healthy Latin dishes using fresh ingredients. All dishes will present the traditional culinary flavors but recipes are tested and made to be kid-friendly. All dishes are vegetarian and nut-free. We cannot guarantee that the cooking and foods will be free from other allergens. Recipes are provided for take home on a weekly basis so kids can share the instruction with their families.
Da Vinci Creative Workshop: Human Mechanics
In this Da Vinci workshop, students will explore how the human body moves and works through a combination of science. art and mechanical study. Projects include the skeleton, lungs, circulation and nervous systems. Each session has a take home project and participants will keep individual DaVinci notebooks of concepts and ideas as they learn about pivots and levers, where the “force” comes from that allows us to move and so many more fascinating facts about the most versatile machine on earth: US!
Graphic Novel Workshop
An opportunity for students to create and illustrate their own graphic novel! Brainstorming original stories, we will go step by step through the process of scripting, storyboarding, pacing and laying out a graphic novel. We will examine Manga, comics, graphic novels and picture books for examples of the many different ways to tell a story using illustration and words, adding emotion, drama and humor to create an original graphic masterpiece.
Language and art. In this class, students learn about the classic and modern heroes of literature and popular culture through shared stories and discussion. Each unit involves a theme and a project based on the hero or heroine of the week. We explore the hero’s journey with an open mind towards both girls and boys and cultures from around the globe: from Mowgli to Harry Potter to Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.
Hands-on STEAM learning and exploration through experimentation, hands-on labs and observation. Involves topics in chemistry, physics, engineering, computing & technology, and life sciences. Each class involves a challenge to solve and a project to complete through inquiry and solution design.
