Curiologist: Actions & Reactions

Curiologistsis themed “ACTIONS and REACTIONS“. Each week Curiologists perform an investigation into a scientific principle through hands-on, inquiry-based experiments. Curiologists work in small groups to perform experiments in a lab-like setting, record their findings in visual and illustrative ways.  This class gives a hands on approach to the making and mixing of chemical reactions we experience everyday, only this time we learn why they happen and then see it for ourselves through experimentation.  From bubbles to slime, invisible ink to oxidation, these kids will get down and messy and experience how fun science truly is.

Medieval Tales

Take a journey back in time to the days of dragons and knights, kings and queens and magic! In this class, we’ll celebrate medieval days and fire up our imaginations with classic stories and related creative projects. Each week, we’ll share a story—including George and the Dragon, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Joan of Arc, and the Sword and the Stone—and then craft a corresponding art project. Take-home projects include shields, banners, stained glass decoupage, candles and Sculpey dragons and others. This combined language and creative arts class offers younger students an opportunity to explore classic tales and themes while building language skills in a creative setting.

Curiologist Engineer: Environmental Science

The Curious Engineer’s Lab is where we take on weekly challenges and work as engineers to solve them utilizing different STEM-based solution designs. Projects are solved using a collaborative, hands-on approach and are designed to encourage teams to work together to address major real world needs and issues. In the Curious Engineers Environmental Sciences Lab, projects will focus on the key elements of the environment: air and water, water and energy systems, and innovative ways to reduce waste through clever use of materials. In each class we will conduct a small-scale experiment to learn how these challenges are being examined by engineers and how we can innovate to solve these challenges, such as how to clean up an oil spill, build a super-dome from ultra-light materials and use solar energy to create a heat source.
