The Spring session of the Curious-on-Hudson after-school program at Iona Prepartory School is organized by the Iona PTA. Classes at Iona Preparatory begin the week of April 1, 2019.  Below you will find the class descriptions for the upcoming term. 

ONLINE REGISTRATION OPENS MONDAY MARCH 11, 2019.  Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If you have questions, please call Curious-on-Hudson at 914-274-8205. 

 

Days and Times: Classes take place immediately following dismissal from 3:00-4:00. Each class runs for eight (8) sessions. The complete list of dates is as follows:

Monday Classes

Iona Preparatory

Grades Pre K – K 

Mondays: 3:00-4:00

$175 (7 sessions)

 

Curiologist: Environmental Science 

In this unit of the Curiologists classes, students will environmental studies through experiments, labs, demonstrations and models. The class is designed to teach an appreciation for the local environment and the eco-systems around them. Students learn about water and soil, as well as the flora and fauna of the local environment. Labs include water testing, sources of energy, pollution and its effects, habitats, effects of climate change and marine life and eco-systems.

Toy Makers Workshop 

A “MAKER” style class where the emphasis is on clever use of everyday items to teach principals of physics through fun, take home projects. Iona Preparatory

Grades 1-5

Thursdays: 3:00-4:00

Gardening 

Budding gardeners will delight in getting their hands dirty in this exploration of ecology! This class is designed to teach students about the complex and fascinating ecosystem to which we, as humans, also belong and from which we draw our food.  We will grow our own food, learn about nutrition, and investigate soils, weather, insects and birds. Using the working class garden at Iona Prep, we will examine the light, soil life-cycles of plants and more. Classes will take place both indoors and out, depending on weather and lesson.
