Fall 2019 Classes

Intermediate Makers

This class embraces the “Maker” theme that has inspired maker spaces around the world as well as the Maker Fair. Maker classes are where kids create their own working models, games and gadgets using raw and recycled materials and basic engineering and technology. Students use tools and must be able to follow safety directions and work well individually.

Grades: 3-4
Tuesdays: 3:00-4:00

Curiologist: Environmental Science

In this unit of the Curiologist classes, students will learn environmental studies through experiments, labs, demonstrations and models. The class is designed to teach an appreciation for the local environment and the eco-systems around them. Students learn about water and soil, as well as the flora and fauna of the local environment. Labs include water testing, sources of energy, pollution and its effects, habitats, effects of climate change and marine life and eco-systems.

Robotics & Programming

This class utilizes multiple platforms to teach the principles of robotics. Students learn how machines can be programmed to follow instructions using Ozobots and Edison Robotics with LEGO™. Both platforms have a programmable interface as well as basic optical based programming routines. Over eight sessions students design exercises for their devices in order to complete challenges using creative problem solving through programming routines.
