Winter 2020 Classes

Intro to Robotics

This class introduces students to basic robotics and programming using platforms such as Ozobots™, LEGO™ and Edison™ programmable robots. Beginning with simple instructions using optical bar codes and scanning, students learn to program devices to follow instructions. As the class progresses, students learn how to program their devices using a software interface on a computer.

Grades: 1-2
Wednesdays: 3:00-4:00
$200 (10 sessions)

Toy Makers Workshop

A “MAKER” style class where the emphasis is on clever use of everyday items to teach principals of physics through fun, take home projects. The class is inspired by Arwind Gupta’s “Toys from Trash: Hands on Science” program. Learn more about Arwind Gupta here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT7EcU7rC44DiS3RkfZzZMg

Grades: 1-2
Wednesdays: 3:00-4:00
$200 (10 sessions)

Design Challenge: Space Adventures

This challenge randomly assigned roles in a fantasy world to challenge students to create solutions for survival. Working in teams, they have to solve problems of creating a peaceful, sustainable, enjoyable “world” while addressing the random needs and preferences of their combined characters. Students first create the fantasy world and then build a working model.

Grades: 3-4
Wednesdays: 3:00-4:00
$200 (10 sessions)

Curiologist: FUNomenal Physics

In this unit of Curiologist, students will learn about physics through experimentation & demonstration. The class is designed to teach an appreciation for how things move (or not move) and the science behind it all. Students learn about things that fly, shoot, drop, float and explode all through hands on model building and testing.

Grades: 1-2
Thursdays: 3:00-4:00
$200 (10 sessions)

Students of Hogwarts

This class will have a dedicated Students of Hogwarts theme and embraces the Maker theme that has inspired maker spaces around the world as well as the Maker Faire. Maker classes are where kids create their own working models, games and gadgets using raw and recycled materials and basic engineering and technology. Projects will be themed around the Students of Hogwarts classes such as potions, herbology, care of magical creatures and wand making.

Grades: 3-4
Thursdays: 3:00-4:00
$200 (10 sessions)

Robotics Design Challenge

If you liked learning how robotics work in our beginner and programming class, you’ll like taking it up a level by solving a weekly design challenge using robotics. Instructors will assign a weekly challenge to a small group of students and they must work together to get their devices to solve that challenge by programming a solution. This class teaches a design based thinking challenge as well as programming using a robotics interface.

Grades: 3-4
Thursdays: 3:00-4:00
