- Creative Writing for Grades 4-6
Wednesday, September 26, 2018
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
This is where you can share your thoughts and ideas.
This class meets 8 times. Our final class will include a reading for friends and families. Class dates are: September 26, October 3, 10, 17, 24 and November 7, 14 and 21. (Skips Halloween, October 31)
This open creative writing program is for young writers in all genres. Writers will explore the creative process and experiment with form, style, and voice. Through a mix of prompts and exercises, craft workshops to develop specific skills, and opportunities to share work, writers will develop their ability to see and show, create memorable characters, bring events and places to life on the page, play with words, and learn to critique and revise their own work and the work of others in a relaxed, supportive setting. Each writer will work toward having a polished piece, or collection of pieces, to share at the end the program—a chapter, a short story, a poem, an essay, any kind of work the writers are developing. In addition to sharing their work in the weekly sessions, participants will be encouraged to engage with the wider community of writers and to submit work for consideration in the program’s literary journal. Outside writing time is encouraged, but not required. All that is needed is curiosity, imagination, and a willingness to jump in to the world of words.
