FREE THE ROBOTS INSIDE YOU!
|Monday-Friday, August 21-25 | 9:00-12:00|
THIS CAMP IS NOW CLOSED.
In the Creative Robot camp, we will use loads of imagination and basic technology to design and build our own personal robotic inventions. We will supply loads of materials - some basic craft stuff and whacky re-purposed stuff so that all you have to do is THINK: What kind of robot do I want to build? One that stands on stilts? One that moves a crayon across a piece of paper? One that moves across a zip line. Basic motors and gear assemblies are used with batteries to give your robot some mechanical motion but what it does it up to you. During the 5 (half-day sessions) your inventor-child will have a chance to play with some programmable robots but most of all, learn to make their own.
This class is designed for the youngest robot builders but they have to be able to work on their projects over five days with help from instructors. All robots will be kept by their builders. Please understand that robots will be made with simple materials (not LEGO but creative materials of their own choosing). The idea here is to think creatively about what to build, find materials, assemble, test and PLAY (lots of play). Then add in some mechanical parts (electronic and not) and you've got your own CREATIVE ROBOT.
On our first day we will discuss ideas and open up the work tables for materials to be selected and tried. As with any engineering project, a lot of trial and error will be encouraged. The first assembly will be made and we'll think about the parts we need to make our robots do "stuff." In session two, we'll learn about gears, motors and how electricity work together to give our robots life and we'll get help applying parts to our bots. In session 3, we'll be doing final assemblies, modifications and testing. We want to allow plenty of time for robot play.
A great way to get in the groove of making and creating!
This class is designed for our youngest creators, i.e.,kids who will be entering kindergarten through second grade in fall 2017. Since the class is three hours, we will take a long break during the session to give kids time to stretch and play (we'll probably be going outdoors, weather permitting).
